🚀 Watershed: Tools to take action on climate
Helping companies reach net zero
Climate change may be the largest problem we will confront this century. Today’s startup Watershed empowers to companies measure, report, and act on their carbon emissions.
⚾ The Elevator Pitch:
As a planet, we emit 50 billion tons of CO2 a year. The trend is stark. If we don’t cut CO2 emissions in half by 2030, global temperatures will rise more than 1.5 degrees Celsius which will lead to more catastrophic climatic and weather events.
Corporations are the largest emitters of carbon, and even if they may want to cut down on emissions, knowing where to start is difficult. Implementing change is even more challenging. This is where Watershed comes in. Their ambitious goal is to cut 1% of the world’s CO2 by hosting companies on its software platform. Watershed provides tools and solutions for companies to measure, report, and reduce their carbon footprint, ultimately, getting them to net zero carbon.

🔍 Why we like it
☀️ Climate change effects all of us
Yes. You probably have heard this a thousand times by now, but climate change will drastically transform the lives of everyone who inhabits this plant. Creating a livable future in itself should be a compelling enough reason – but in addition, everyday people and consumers are paying more attention to their products and companies. No one wants to support environmentally unconscientious organizations. Companies are realizing too. This creates the perfect opportunity for a company like Watershed to thrive. At the end of the day, lower carbon emissions is a win-win for all of us.
🌲 Real problems need real solutions
Reaching carbon zero doesn’t mean vaguely promising to buy carbon offsets by planting trees and putting out an impressive PDFs. For Watershed, it means diving deep into the complexity of a company and sourcing its data. This means gathering data on various companies in the supply chain and pinpointing the largest sources. Specific and accurate data allows companies to set realistic reduction goals and to identify specific pain-points to improve.
📝 Carbon reduction plans
It’s already difficult enough for individuals to create carbon-reduction plans. The process for companies is unimaginably more difficult, and Watershed understands that. They work with companies directly to create plans that are suited for their goals, whether it is a net zero commitment or science-based targets. Watershed helps companies simulate scenarios and ultimately take action to start reducing emissions.
